Psychoeducation training in Stress, Trauma, and Suicide Awareness for Law Enforcement

Law enforcement agencies have a responsibility to prioritize the mental health and well-being of their officers. This includes implementing a multi-faceted approach to prevention and intervention, starting with primary prevention through Behavioral Health Training. By providing all officers with the knowledge, awareness, and resilience needed to cope with traumatic events, agencies can help prevent future mental health problems.

For officers who are struggling with stress and trauma, agencies should offer assistance which includes providing a list of options for self care. Avoiding the struggles will continue to intensify which leads to potential suicide ideations.

Law Enforcement Psychological Suicide Autopsies

Following a death by suicide a common question asked by many is "WHY?" Suicide autopsies aide us in answering the "WHY" allowing a certified investigator to go back and gather information related to the risk factors present and protective factors that had diminished in a person's life. All of the information collected provides answers to the questions of why an individual made the decision to end their life. This information also gives us the ability to better understand suicidal behaviors and risk factors and implement proactive measures for our first responders.
